A Night to Remember


Our January Dinner meeting at the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel & Casino was a great success. The crowd of members and guests gathered for wine and Puerto Rican appetizers (and networking) at  the private bar overlooking the cruise ships in the bay, then sat down at a huge imperial table to a repast fit for royalty. The four course dinner featured smoked tomato soup with avocado mousse served with Gavi Pincipessa, followed by crab cake and pigeon peas ragout accompanied by a Wente chardonnay.


The clever sorbet was a special hit: acerola ice cube kinky with candy lemon with a spicy Bousquet Malbec. There were three entrees to chose from: Spiced pork chop aji pique, mashed ñame and steamed pumpkin; chicken wild mushroom cup with forest berries demi-glace and pancetta risotto; or plantain crusted mahi mahi with spicy mamposteado rice and arugula salad.


The dessert was a hazelnut mascarpone cake turnover with vanilla ice cream and café encantos.


It was a night of genuine Skal amicale: good food, good wine and good friends!
