Perla is Truly a Pearl!

Skalleagues in Puerto Rico started the New Year in style with a delicious dinner at Perla, the chic restaurant at La Concha Hotel in the Condado area of San Juan.  The restaurant is located in a large conch-shaped dome on the beach—once the site of one of the island’s most famous supper clubs and in another era, a discotheque. The room—and the entire hotel—was recently remodeled, rebuilt and revived as one of the most modern, chic, hip and popular places for the young, beautiful and famous—and, of course, for one night, for Skål International Puerto Rico!

As you can see in the photos, the décor is informally elegant and our club members are clearly charmed to be together once again after the busy holiday season. What you can’t see is the excellent service provided by the Perla staff under the direction of Ernie Hernández. Skalleague Luis Rivera, General Manager of La Concha, wore a broad smile all evening, proud of the extraordinary artistry and quality of the wine and food served to his friends. Congratulations Skalleague Robert Rodríguez for putting together an unforgettable event!

What did we have?  Lots of very nice wine and tasty appetizers, Calabaza Soup. a choice of Grilled Mahi Mahi with a Malanga Mash, Wild Mushrooms and Warm Red Pepper Coulis or Petite Filet Mignon, Black Truffle Mash Potato, Grilled Asparagus, Port Reduction with Roasted Shallots. Dessert was a Soft Center Warm Chocolate Croquant Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream (I liked it so much, I took its portrait!) or Coconut Cream Cheese Custard, Braised Pineapple, Berries and Granola.
